Zoo's inspire children (and adults) to want to save these wonderful creatures and their homes. The sacrifice of freedom the zoo animals make helps to ensure the freedom of generations to come! Almost no Zoo animals come from the wild as a matter of fact Zoo's are now pretty much the last hope for many creatures; through breeding and release programs such as China's work with the giant panda they actually help increase wild populations. Most animals are just as happy to be feed and given shelter as long as they're given plenty of space and socialization as well.

Um...well yes I knew this stuff and you're absolutely right and thanks for reminding me but! It's the idea I hate - animals in cages! I'm silly enough to wish that they weren't a total necessity these days! :D
